Guidelines for Admissions
AY 2024-2025

The University Department of Psychology, Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women’s University, Churchgate was established in 1984. The Department of Psychology has a long-standing reputation in the field of Psychology receiving more applications than seats available from across India. The demand-supply ratio is skewed by the fact that we are selective and we accept students only on merit-basis.

The Department offers a full-time (In person / offline) 2 year Master of Arts Programme with three specializations:

  • Industrial/Organizational Psychology : The Industrial / organizational psychology students are placed at an ever expanding list of prime companies including Aditya Birla group of companies, Tata Power, Larsen and Toubro, and Mahindra & Mahindra, among many others

  • Clinical Psychology : Clinical Psychology students are placed at major hospitals including KEM hospital, BYL Nair hospital, Lokmanya Tilak hospital at Sion and JJ group of hospitals

  • Counseling Psychology : The Counseling Psychology students are placed at well-reputed counseling centers and organizations like Red Boys Foundation, Mindwellness Centre, Aaji Care, Open Your Arms Foundation, Disha Counseling Centre etc.


    The annual feature of the Department is the Placement process conducted either on-campus. This helps the students connect and truly understand their future work environment and expectations. Several campus interviews are held every year and students get placed even before their results are declared. So far we have held campus interviews for Aditya Birla, Godrej, Akanksha Foundation, ARPAN, Budhrani Trust, Mann Talks-Telecounseling firm etc.

    A placement brochure (Industrial/Organizational Psychology) is published by the Department of Psychology. The students of MA Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the Department Churchgate publish an annual Placement Brochure, which is distributed among potential employers for their better understanding of the student roster and Department activities and placement of students.

Throughout each course, students gain specialized knowledge about both theory and practical applications of their respective field. The Department consists of qualified and experienced faculty members and firmly believes in inculcating skill based and experiential learning as part of the regular curriculum. Experienced trainers / Professionals from the field as well as our Alumni are invited to share their expertise with the students.

Alongside the regular academic activities, there are many extracurricular activities that students participate outside their classroom including workshops, seminars, webinars, festivals etc. The Department of Psychology, Mumbai, has recently inaugurated Atmabodh Mindfulness Cell and also has a dedicated Guidance and Counseling Center. They offer students additional options for psychological support, training and guidance. 

Internships in well-reputed organizations, Hospitals, Clinics, other Institutions are offered by the Department for real-world experience and to prepare students for placement after completing the course. Furthermore, the Department fosters placement opportunities for students across all its programmes.

Admission Process

  • Please check the University website for the dates and the admission procedure. The Admission process for this Academic year may start from the mid June. Thus, applicants are kindly advised to check the University website regularly for updates about the admission process. Following is the general procedure for Admission:

  • Candidates have to apply online by clicking on the link sndt.ac.in / https://sndt.digitaluniversity.ac 

  • Post submission of the online form and after having chosen Churchgate as the center, please take a print-out of the online form, attach xerox copies of final year B.A. marksheets (semester 5 & 6) and Caste Certificates or any other relevant documents submit them to the Department Office.

  • Once found eligible, the Department will send a google form link to the registered, eligible candidates via mail to the email addresses provided by the applicant.

  • This Google form has to be filled with precision. In case of errors, application will not be processed further. Candidates are advised to fill the form as accurately as possible and provide the correct working email addresses. (any appeal will not be entertained)

  • Admissions for outstation candidates will be based on the rules outlined by the Government of Maharashtra and only a few seats are available for outstation students.

  • Once the merit list is displayed, all selected candidates will be informed the same telephonically as well as via email wherein they will be called offline for document verification alongwith their online application form and original marksheets & certificates.

  • Applicants selected for admission need to come in person with either one of their parents to the Department of Psychology, Churchgate.

  • After document verification, the candidates will proceed to pay the fees with the admin clerk.
     

Unless all documents required by the Department are submitted, admission will remain provisional.

CANVASSING FOR ADMISSION IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. IT MAY LEAD TO DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE ADMISSION PROCESS.

Eligibility Criteria: 

  • Only candidates who have completed ENTIRE Psychology in Final Year B.A with all 6 papers of Psychology in Semester 5 and 6.

    OR
     
  • 32 credits of Psychology which should include 4 credits of Practicals (Practicum journal will have to be given as proof of completion, if & when required)

  • Graduate in Psychology from this university or any other recognised University. Students from other subjects should have completed 8 courses of 4 credits each with at least one practical course of 4 credits at graduation.

  • Applicants who have graduated or completed diploma in any other subject will not be considered for admission

Q1. How will the Admission procedure take place?

Q2. What are the dates of the Admission Process for Academic year 2023-2025 ?

A)    The dates will be displayed on the website around mid or last week of June. Kindly keep checking the University website for the same.

Q3. What are the subjects offered for the Masters programme ?

Q4. Is this a college department or University Department?

A)    This is a University Department of Psychology, Churchgate, Mumbai, situated at SNDT Women’s University, Churchgate Campus.

Q5. Is it a full time course ?

A)    Yes, it is OFFLINE- a full time, in person -  2 year Master Degree course. Attendance is mandatory and a defaulter’s list will be displayed for those who fail to meet the attendance criteria.

Q6. How many seats for MA first year for Psychology?

A)    We have 80 seats in total for MA Part I and every year the number of applications keep on increasing, hence the ratio between the number of applicants and available seats is skewed.

Q7. How many seats for Industrial Psychology / Clinical Psychology /  Counseling Psychology ?

A)    There are 25 seats each for Industrial Psychology and Clinical Psychology specialization 
B)    There are 30 seats in Counseling Psychology specialization.

Q8. Does the course offer internships? 

A)    Refer information above (Most of our students are placed as Interns)
 
Q9. When will the semester begin ?

The tentative schedule is as follows:

A)    Semester 1 & 3 begins in the last week of July or the first week of August

B)    Semester 2 & 4 begins in the month of January-February

Q10. Will the admissions be offline or online ?

A)    Online application has to be filled first-  https://sndt.digitaluniversity.ac .
        The rest of the offline process has been detailed above (under admission process).

Q11. Will the classes be held offline or online ?

A)    The courses are run on the campus i.e. offline, full time, in person mode

Q12. What is the eligibility criteria for MA PART I?

A)    You will be eligible if you have completed graduation in Psychology from this University or any other recognized Universities (32 credits in psychology with practical subject)

Q. 13. What is the eligibility criteria for MA PART II?

A)    1. You have to be a student from this University and 
        2. You should have cleared first year in the same subject or passed with admissible ATKT 

Q14. What is the Cut off for admissions ?

The cut off percentage of the admission keeps changing on a yearly basis. Admission in our University Department of Psychology, Churchgate, Mumbai  is very competitive.

A)    The cut-off for the courses are generally as follows:
     - Clinical Psychology - 90%
     - Industrial Psychology - 90%
     - Counseling Psychology - 85%

Q15. Are there interviews or entrance exams conducted ?

A)    The admission process will be decided by the admission committee. The same will be communicated to the eligible candidates about the selection process. No separate enquiries will be entertained.

Q16. When will the 1st/2nd/3rd merit list be put up ?

A)    The declaration of the dates will depend on the pace of the Admission process. The dates for all 3 merit lists will be informed to selected students once the Admission process begins. The selected candidates will be informed about their selection via mail and call, once informed applicants need to report for the admission process in-person with one parent on the designated date and time.

Q20. I have a gap after completing Graduation in Psychology. Can I still apply for masters ?

A) If you have completed graduation with all 6 papers of Psychology,  then you are eligible for applying. If you are selected then you need to submit a gap certificate from the competent authority, for that, the department will inform you of the procedure.

Q21. I have completed graduation in another subject / I have completed graduation with 3 papers of psychology and 3 papers of other subjects. Am I eligible for a Masters in Psychology programme?

A) No. Since the course requires full Psychology in graduation. Kindly refer to the eligibility criteria.

Q22. If I get the recommendation from someone influential, can I get admission in your institute?

A) ANY SUCH RECOMMENDATIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED OR ENTERTAINED BY THE DEPARTMENT. THE ADMISSION IS PURELY ON MERIT BASIS.

Can we apply for a hostel facility ?

A) Hostel accommodation is available on campus. Only students living beyond the city limits of Mumbai will be allowed to apply. Admission will be on the basis of merit & distance. Please note that Hostel seats are limited and we cannot provide any guarantee for hostel accommodation. 

Q24. Which documents to submit for hostel accommodation ?

A) Address proof, 2 local guardians, 2 contact telephone numbers, photocopy of college admission fees receipt, hostel undertaking form signed by student & parent / local guardian, authentic medical certificates, caste certificate,  school leaving certificate,  marksheet of previous exam.

Q25. What will be the charges for hostel accommodation ?

A) Charges of the hostel accommodation are subject to change each year. Students can directly contact the Hostel Office after seeking admission.

Q26. Is the MA course hectic?

Regardless of which specialization you choose, some students find it difficult to cope with as it is a big leap from Bachelor’s level to Master’s level and regular attendance is of utmost importance.

Q27. Is there any attendance criteria for students ?

According to University regulations, classes will be held regularly and 80% attendance is mandatory for all students to attain. The list of defaulter students will be displayed.

Fee Details: The approximate fee range for M.A. in Psychology is Rs. 19000 - 35000 /-

Q28. Do we offer B.A./ B.S.c  in Psychology?
A) No. This is a Postgraduate Department for M.A. in Psychology only

Q29. Does the Department offer PhD ?

A) We offer a P.H.D Programme in Psychology, you can visit the PhD section on the University Website.

Q30. Can you switch your specialization after taking admission?

A) The specialization is determined at the time of admission on the basis of MERIT

Q31. Financial Aid and Scholarships: Does the university offer any scholarships, grants, or financial aid options for Master's students? If so, what is the application process for these opportunities?

A) All government scholarships are available. All Government Scholarships are available as per the rules delineated by the Government authorities. Which will be informed to admitted students as per the government circular.
