The University Department of Political Science was established in 1984. It is committed to providing quality education with a view of creating strong, motivated and determined women political scientists, committed to social justice and gender empowerment.

The department offers intellectually stimulating programmes (MA and M.Phil. and Ph.D.) that encourages research and critical thinking on contemporary political issues with a view of creating socially responsible and politically aware citizens. It also prepares students for a career in research.

The post graduate curriculum of the department includes an internship component, which gives the students an opportunity to explore the world of work, while pursuing their degree. As a part of internship programme that the department offers. Students are placed with national and international organisations as a part of the Internship programme.

The Department has a strong and committed faculty with national and international exposure interested in creating an enabling environment for research and academic excellence. The faculty has contributed significantly to the enrichment of the discipline.

The department organises academic and cultural activities, inviting the best academicians, activists and practitioners from all over the country and abroad. It creates space for democratic discussion, creating thinking and analytical discourses.

The students of the department come from across the country, bring a diversity and plurality the classroom that enriches the teaching - learning experience.

  • To orient students towards value – based democratic politics with a view to create empowered citizens.

We aim to develop a body of women scholars equipped with in – depth knowledge of the discipline and sensitivity to the aspirations of Indian society to bring about social transformation, gender justice and public service.
