SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai
 Pre-centennial Year (2014-15)


The SNDT Women’s University established by Bharat Ratna Maharshi Karve on July 5, 1916 in Pune as Bharat Varsheeya Mahaila Vidyapeeth (Indian Women’s University) will be celebrating its Centennial Year during 2015-16. The year 2014-15 was celebrated as Pre-Centennial Year.

University organised 74 programmes and events at International, National and State level during the year 2014-15.

Pre-centennial Foundation Day was celebrated on July 5, 2014. Shri. S. Ramadorai, Vice-Chairman of Tata Consultancy Services, Adviser to the Prime Minister of India in the National Council on Skill Development (NSDC), Government of India and Chairman of the National Skill Development Agency (NSDA) delivered the Foundation Day Address as Chief Guest. At this occasion five distinguished alu mnae of SNDTWU Pandita Shubhada Paradkar, Dr. Kavita Inamdar, Smt. Sangeeta Dhaigude, Smt. Rajashree Shirke and
Dr. Geeta Yadav were felicitated at the hands of the Chief Guest. Prof. Vasudha Kamat, Vice Chancellor presented Centennial Year (2015-16) Plan of the University.

Lectures by eminent scholars were organised under Maharshi Karve Lecture series which was inaugurated on January 18, 2012 by Prof. Ram Takwale. Indian documentary maker Mr. Siddharth Kak, Eminent Artist Shri. Vasudev Kamath, internationally renowned atomic scientist Dr. Anil Kakodkar delivered Maharshi Karve Lecture during 2014-15.

Avhan: Chancellor’s Brigade, a 10-day Training programme on Disaster Management for NSS volunteers from all Universities in Maharashtra was organised by the SNDT Women’s University during May 25-June 3, 2016. Eleven hundred volunteers and Programme Officers of NSS participated. Hon’ble Chancellor Shri. Ch. Vidyasagar Rao inaugurated Avhan: The Chancellor’s Brigade.



Pre-Centennial Vidhyarthini Sahitya Sammelan (Student Literary Festivals)
This year, across three campuses, student-centred initiatives were organised in collaboration of multiple departments. Student led conferences for research and Vidyarthini Sahitya Sammelan by language departments were the highlights of the year. About 700 students and faculty members participated in 3-day Sahitya Sammelan at Churchgate campus whereas 150 students and teachers participated in 2-day Sahitya Sammelan at Pune campus.

SStudent Led Conferences
UGC sponsored Student Led Conference on ‘Social Media for GenNext’ was organised by departments of Social Sciences at Churchgate campus. Juhu Campus organised Student Led Conference on ‘21st Century Higher Education: Opportunities and Challenges’ whereas Pune Campus organised Student Led Conference on ‘Smart GenNext’.



Seminar, Conferences Organised by the Departments
Research Centre for Women’s Studies organised International Conference. Department of Human Development partnered in organisation of the International Conference.

Departments of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension Work, Education Management, English, Marathi, Psychology PVDT College of Education and SVT College of Home Science, Juhu organised National level Workshops.

Departments of Human Development and Educational Technology organised National Symposium.

Department of Economics organised National Conference. Department of Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Special Education, SNDT College of Arts and SCB College of Commerce and Science for Women, Churchgate and PVDT College of Education organised National Seminars.

Several State level seminars, workshops, memorial lectures were organised.

Yoga Day was celebrated on June 21, 2015. Students, teachers and staff participated enthusiastically.
