Women’s University
(SNDT WU) inaugurated
office of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chair on
2nd August 2016. The inauguration was held
at 11am at the Sir Sitaram and Lady
Shantabai Patkar Deekshant Sabhagriha,
Churchgate.
Dr. Ambedkar Foundation,
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment,
Government of India, New Delhi has
sanctioned Dr Ambedkar Chair to SNDT Women’s
University. The office will start
functioning once posts are filled up.
Vacancies have been announced and August 10
is the last date for application.
Shri Rajkumar Badole, Hon’ble Minister of
Social Justice and Special Assistance
Department of Government of Maharashtra was
the chief guest of the function. Speaking
about last lecture of Babasheb he emphasized
that political democracy needs to be
translated into social democracy with
interlinked values. He accepted the
proposals made by the madam Vice Chancellor
for girls hostel as well as Ambedkar
research centre at SNDTWU.
Shri Ramesh Pandav, Professor and Head Civil
Engineering Department, Hi Tech Institute of
Technology, Aurangabad tracing life of
Babasaheb Ambedkar lectured on “Dr Ambedkar
Aani Rashtriya Ekatmta”. Prof Pandav very
animatedly supported his narrative by giving
quotes from the texts created by Babasaheb
and expressed that we need to recognize the
contribution made by Babasaheb. Citing
declaration by Babashaeb of leaving Hindu
religion and adoption of Buddha dharma, Prof
Pandav stated that he himself has left Hindu
dharma, aspects of it which propagates
divisiveness. Religious democracy is part of
Indian identity and citing excerpts of last
lecture by Babasaheb, Prof Pandav suggested
Babasaheb needs to be studies well. He
concluded by saying that adhyayan, adyapan,
thoughts and behavior of Babasaheb will
become part of the Ambedkar Chair work at
the University.
Professor Shashikala Wanjari, Vice
Chancellor, SNDT Women’s University stated
in her address that when 70th independence
day is round the corner, thoughts of
Babasaheb becomes all the more relevant.
