Women’s University
(SNDT WU) completed 100
years today. The celebrations started on
July 5, 2015 when for pre-Centennial
Foundation Day programme,
Dr. Raghunath A
Mashelkar, name known to all delivered the
foundation day address as a chief guest. The
year went by with numerous international and
national conferences, Sahitya Samelan, Music
festival, Dance festival, involvement of
SNDTWU with Swatch Bharat as well as Digital
India campaigns, and many other events. The
University strives to gain Central
University status.
The Shri. Ch. Vidyasagar Rao,
Honourable Chancellor and Governor of
Maharashtra delivered Foundation
Day address at the Sir Sitaram and Lady
Shantabai Patkar Deekshant Sabhagriha at
Churchgate. He praised the University for
diversity and design of curriculum and
suggested that in its 100th year the
university should come out with perspective
plan for next 25-50 years. He also suggested
ways and means by which the university
should collaborate and work so that all the
Saraswatis of the university can achieve
their fullest potential.
Shri. Devendra Fadnavis, Honourable,
Chief Minister of Maharashtra being
the special guest of the function urged the
need to work with human resource development
and in the process develop of the nation. He
expressed that in the information age we
need to focus on connectivity, network and
access.
Shri. Vinod Tawde, Honourable Minister School Education & Sports, Higher & Technical Education,
Government of
Maharashtra was guest of honour. He
expressed that there is still need for
women’s university. He appreciated
internship by all postgraduate students at
SNDTWU and agreed to support university if
blueprint for next hundreds years is
presented.
Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof.
Shashikala Wanjari presided over
the
function. She informed the gathering
that the steps will be taken in the
direction of setting up Legal Cell, Health
Centre, full time Public Relations Officer
and follow up of already submitted proposals
to the tune of 75 crores. She informed that
though the University has received Rs. 20
crores for Infrastructure Development under
RUSA and Rs. 1 crore for RUSA Centre for
Food Product Development besides 55 lakhs
for faculty research project, more proposals
will be submitted soon.
Maharshi Kurve uttkrusht shikshketar purskar
were awarded to two women employees- one
from PV Polytechnic and another from the
affiliated college. A special postal stamp
was released bearing the SNDTWU centennial
year logo as part the Centennial Year
Celebration. |
