SNDT Women’s University

The first Choice of New Age Women!

The year 1896 marks the beginning of a new era in the history of Women’s Education in India when Maharshi Dhondo Keshav Karve established an ashram for widows and helpless women, at Hingne near Pune. He launched a program of schooling at the ashram, to make these women self-sufficient, self-reliant and self-confident, which later became a regular school for girls and women. To realize his dream of establishing a Women’s University, on 5th July, 1916, he launched the first women’s college by enrolling five students. This small plant has blossomed into a giant tree today, with an enrolment of over 75,000 students, four campuses, fifteen conducted institutions and forty-four postgraduate departments. Today, SNDT Women’s University has become a symbol of excellence in higher educational opportunities for women.

The University has collaborated with state and central governments, industry, and national and International organizations to develop and conduct academic programs, undertake research and in working with the community.
